Birthday Freebies

At the beginning of this month I thought it would be fun to see what companies offered birthday discounts and freebies. The moment I typed birthday freebies into the google search box, I felt uncomfortably entitled, but quickly realized the companies really don’t seem to mind giving these gifts away. Birthday freebies do come at a cost. The price I paid was by giving my personal information to all of these companies in hopes of them sending me a code for a free product or a coupon for a discount in their store, and the companies are happy to receive my information. I know because I am now being bombarded daily with emails from many more companies than I’d like to admit! I would suggest making a special e-mail address or folder just for these promotional e-mails.

It was fun scouring the interwebs looking for and discovering all kinds of articles loaded with lists of companies that offer some sort of freebie for an individual’s birthday. I found that most birthday freebies were either a free dessert at the end of a meal or were some kind of buy one get one free (BOGO) offer. Then there were some that were no purchase necessary free! Like walk into the establishment show them the email code and walk out with the birthday gift!

To get your birthday discounts and freebies you will need to enroll in the company’s reward program if you aren’t already a member. I would suggest doing this at least a week or two prior to your birthday but to be safe you should really enroll a month before your special day. Then wait… Most birthday emails are sent out either a couple of days before your birthday or on your actual birthday. Once you receive your offer it is usually good for about a week, but I did receive a couple of offers that were only good for my actually birthday and others were good for the month of my birthday and one was good for the entire year, so be mindful of the expiration dates on your offers!

Now to get to the good stuff—oh but first, you should know that I began signing up for offers two weeks prior to my birthday and I decided I would be selective because it takes time to sign-up for each program. I chose to only sign-up with companies that I either already do business with or am interested their products. So, here I am a member of 25 more reward programs. Unfortunately, I only received 15 offers and those 14 did not disappoint. However, it is possible I did not sign-up in enough time to receive certain offers or my membership becomes valid only after I make an initial purchase as a member, so maybe next year. And now for the goods you’ve been waiting for—my list of Birthday Freebies!
